PM Modi expresses solidarity with those affected by cloudburst in Kishtwar, J&K; assures all possible assistance
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep concern over the cloudburst and subsequent flooding in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. He assured that every effort is being made to provide timely assistance to those impacted by the calamity.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said: “My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the cloudburst and flooding in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir. The situation is being monitored closely. Rescue and relief operations are underway. Every possible assistance will be provided to those in need.”
Heavy damage feared, 38 confirmed dead
Heavy damage is feared due to cloudburst in Chashoti area of Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir. Chashoti is the last motorable village en route to the Machail Mata shrine.
The death of 38 people, including two CISF jawans, has been confirmed by the Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar Pankaj Sharma. He said that teams have been sent to the spot for relief and rescue.
A flash flood situation had arisen at the spot. This place is the starting point of Machail Mata Yatra.
Kishtwar DC office has informed that at least 70 people have been admitted to the block and district hospital. The number of casualties is expected to increase.
Help desk and control room numbers have been issued by the Chief Minister's Office of Jammu and Kashmir.
Also, CM Omar Abdullah has cancelled the 'At Home' tea party on the evening of 15 August. Apart from this, it has also been decided not to hold cultural programs on the morning of Independence Day.
