PM Narendra Modi speaks with President Putin, what did the two leaders discuss?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a telephone call today from the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.
President Putin shared his assessment of his meeting with the President of the United States, Donald Trump in Alaska last week.
While thanking President Putin, PM Modi underlined India’s consistent position for a peaceful resolution of the conflict through diplomacy and dialogue. He reiterated that India supports all efforts in this regard.
The two leaders also touched upon a number of issues of bilateral cooperation with a view to further strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia. The two leaders agreed to remain in close touch.
The face-to-face meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska lasted for about three hours. However, neither a ceasefire was agreed upon nor any formal agreement was reached in this meeting. Both the leaders had only said that 'some progress' has been made.
Regarding the meeting with Putin, Trump said that their meeting was very good. Both agreed on many points, but no deal was made. Trump said that any agreement will be made only when it is finalized.
Trump gave this meeting 10 out of 10 marks. At the same time, Putin said that Russia's security is most important for him. He suggested to hold the next meeting in Moscow.
Zelensky also spoke to PM Modi
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called PM Modi on 12 August. Zelenskyy informed about this on X. He said- I had a long conversation with India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We discussed bilateral cooperation and global diplomacy in detail.
Zelenskyy told Modi about Russian attacks on Ukraine. He said- I told him (PM Modi) about the Russian attacks on us, especially about the attack on the bus station in Zaporizhia, where Russia deliberately bombed a city, injuring dozens of people.
Zelenskyy said that India is supporting our peace efforts and agrees that every decision related to Ukraine should be taken with the participation of Ukraine.
