In the press conference of the US State Department, a journalist asked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to China for the first time in seven years, is America worried that the BRICS group will take any action against the tariff?
In response, the Principal Deputy Spokesperson of the US State Department, Tommy Piggot, said, "In the context of India, I can only say that President Trump is very clear on the issue of trade imbalance and purchase of Russian oil. India is a strategic partner, with whom the dialogue will continue as before. We do not agree 100 percent every time, but President Trump has a clear stand on buying oil from Russia."
However, no official statement has come from the Indian government regarding the China visit.
America has currently imposed a 50 percent tariff on India. The US House Foreign Affairs Committee wrote on X, "Trump's additional tariffs threaten years of efforts to strengthen the US-India partnership.
The committee says, "We have a deep strategic, economic relationship. All problems should be resolved with mutual respect in accordance with our democratic values."
What Trump said on trade deal with India?
US President Donald Trump has said that there is no possibility of trade talks with India until the tariff issue is resolved.
When a journalist at the White House asked him if he had any hope of trade talks with India after the 50% tariff announcement, Trump said, "No, not until we resolve it."
Trump's comment came after the order on Thursday, which announced imposing an additional 25% tariff on India for trading with Russia.
The US has currently imposed a 50% tariff on India.
