The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has rejected Rahul Gandhi's recent claims about large-scale rigging in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. They compared his statements to “cutting the very branch on which one sits,” meaning he is harming his own position.

During a press conference, Union Minister Bhupender Yadav slammed Gandhi for speaking disrespectfully about the Election Commission. He warned that such comments could harm Indian democracy. Yadav said, “Rahul Gandhi’s claims of ‘electoral fraud’ are not only untrue but also dangerous.”

4 million voters increased, not 10 million

Yadav pointed out that official data shows the number of voters in the November 2024 Maharashtra elections increased by over 4 million compared to the earlier Lok Sabha elections, which is much lower than the 10 million Gandhi claimed. He suggested that Gandhi spent a lot of time creating his story, but the main idea of his accusation has been proven wrong.

Voter number also increased in areas where Cong won

He mentioned specific areas like Madha, Mohol, Nagpur West, and Nagpur North, which were won by Congress or its allies. Yadav said voter numbers increased in those places, contradicting the opposition's claims.

Rahul should present his proof officially to ECI instead of media

Yadav dismissed Gandhi's promise of evidence, calling it a self-destructive move, and said criticizing the Election Commission attacks India’s democracy. He suggested that if Gandhi has real concerns about the elections, he should present his proof officially to the Election Commission instead of using the media.

Cong is spreading lies to undermine the electoral process

Yadav accused the Congress party of spreading lies to undermine the electoral process after their losses. He said their strategy is to “lie and evade accountability” and criticized them for disrupting parliamentary discussions to avoid real debates.

The controversy began after Rahul Gandhi analyzed electoral data from a Karnataka constituency and accused the BJP of committing “massive criminal fraud” with help from the Election Commission, labeling it a “crime against the Constitution.” He also claimed that the BJP rigged the Maharashtra Assembly elections to win.
