Culture and traditions reached Mauritius from India centuries ago: PM Modi in Varanasi

PM Modi met Mauritius Prime Minister: Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam is on an 8-day visit to India from 9 to 16 September and is currently in Varanasi. The PM met him here. The PM spoke about relations with Mauritius in a joint press conference.

Prime Minister Modi reached Varanasi on Thursday morning, where he was welcomed by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. After this, PM Modi met the Prime Minister of Mauritius.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a joint press conference with his counterpart Navinchandra Ramgoolam that culture and traditions reached Mauritius from India centuries ago and settled in the lifestream there. Like the uninterrupted flow of Mother Ganga in Kashi, the continuous flow of Indian culture has been enriching Mauritius. 

India and Mauritius are not just partners, but a family

Modi said, "Today when we are welcoming friends from Mauritius in Kashi, it is not just a formal but a spiritual meeting. That is why I proudly say that India and Mauritius are not just partners, but a family."

Earlier, the Prime Minister of Mauritius also met Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and discussed the multifaceted bilateral partnership between the two countries. 

The Ministry of External Affairs wrote on the social media platform 'X', "Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Prime Minister of Mauritius Navinchandra Ramgoolam in Varanasi on Thursday. Discussed multifaceted partnership and reiterated commitment to strengthen the India-Mauritius Enhanced Strategic Partnership based on shared history, culture and people-to-people ties."
