Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has resigned amid violent protests in Nepal. On Tuesday, protests were held in major cities of Nepal including the capital Kathmandu demanding his resignation. Protesters entered the Parliament building and committed arson.
Apart from Oli, 4 ministers have resigned so far. These include Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, Agriculture Minister Ramnath Adhikari, Health Minister Pradeep Poudel and Water Supply Minister Pradeep Yadav. Apart from this, some other MPs have also resigned.
Pradeep Yadav wrote, "Dear young brothers and sisters, you are my first allies and the source of my energy and enthusiasm. In support of the movement started yesterday and in protest against the government's repression, I resign from the post of minister."
Ramnath Adhikari also expressed discontent
Ramnath Adhikari has expressed discontent over the use of force during the Gen-Z Protest.
He told media that he announced his resignation on social media because he failed to meet the Prime Minister.
He wrote on Facebook, "I am surprised to know that in a democracy, instead of accepting that it is the natural right of citizens to ask questions and protest peacefully, we are moving towards dictatorship instead of democracy with widespread repression, killings and use of force," he wrote.
He wrote, "How is the generation that should have contributed to the building of the country being treated like a war? It was not acceptable to me to remain in power without finding answers to these questions."
He wrote, "My conscience is warning me that after the killing and oppression of young children, due to which the country is in mourning, it is against my morality and the education given to me by my party to continue serving in the government. I feel guilty for sticking to my official responsibilities."
Earlier, the country's Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak also resigned on Monday.
Protests continue
Meanwhile, protests have started in the home district of Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahudar Deuba.
Protesters have also set fire to the houses of former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Ramesh Lekhak, who resigned from the post of Home Minister yesterday, and Communications Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung.
Youth protests continue for the second consecutive day against corruption and ban on social media in the country. So far 19 people have died in violence.
On Monday, Nepal's youth took to the streets in large numbers against the ban on social media. Some youths entered the Parliament premises in the capital Kathmandu. Security forces took strict action against the protesters.
