The ongoing movement against social media ban and corruption in Nepal came to a halt on Wednesday for the third day. To stop the violent protests, the army took control of the entire country from 10 pm on Tuesday. So far more than 1000 people have been injured and 30 have been killed in the violence.
Talks continued throughout the day between the army and Gen-Z protesters to form an interim government. It has been claimed in the local media that the country's first female Chief Justice Sushila Karki can become the interim Prime Minister. She has received the support of Gen-Z.
It has been reported that more than 5000 members of Gen-Z participated in a virtual meeting. In this meeting, Sushila Karki's name was put forward for the post of interim PM and it was also agreed upon. If this proposal moves forward, Sushila Karki can become the first female interim Prime Minister of Nepal.
Sushila Karki's India connection
Sushila Karki's name is coming up as the Prime Minister of Nepal's interim government. Born on 7 June 1952 in Biratnagar, Nepal, Sushila Karki has a special relationship with India. She obtained an MA degree in Political Science from Banaras Hindu University in 1975.
Her identity as an alumnus of BHU will definitely give a lot of momentum to the relations between India and Nepal. Sushila Karki has been the former Chief Justice of Nepal and is the first and only woman to hold this post. Karki became the Chief Justice on 11 July 2016.\
After the uncontrolled situation in Nepal for the last two days, Sushila Karki has received the support of 2500 people after a virtual consensus meeting. 5000 people participated in it. Sushila Karki's name has been proposed by Gen Z.
Apart from Karki, the names of rapper turned Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah, Rabi Lamichhane, Kulman Ghising and Harka Sampang have also come up as interim Prime Ministers.
