What allegations girl students have made against Swami Chaitanyanand Saraswati; what new revelations are emerging
Seventeen girl students have accused Swami Chaitanyanand Saraswati, the former chief of the Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management in Delhi, of sexual harassment. The students claim he used vulgar language, sent inappropriate messages, and touched them without consent.
The students reported that some female faculty and staff pressured them to meet his demands. An FIR was filed against him on August 4, and he was removed from his position on August 9 after the allegations surfaced. He is currently on the run, with police tracing his location to near Agra, Uttar Pradesh.
New revelations are emerging
New revelations are constantly emerging about the absconding accused, Chaitanyananda. Police reported that he threatened to lower the girls' grades. He would call students to his room late at night and threaten to fail them if they resisted. Police have recorded the statements of three wardens so far.
Wardens at the ashram had introduced girls to the Swami
The students claimed that some wardens working at the ashram had introduced them to the accused.
He also lured the girls with promises of taking them abroad. All three wardens are accused of forcing girls to delete messages sent by Chaitanyananda.
Volvo car with fake UN number plate seized
Police have seized his Volvo car, which had a fake United Nations number plate. The institute, linked to the Shringheri Sharadapeeth in South India, offers a postgraduate management program and has over 70 female students. Some students claimed that certain staff members helped arrange meetings with Chaitanyanand, which led to harassment.
32 students have given statements to the police
So far, 32 students have given statements to the police, with 17 detailing harassment experiences. The police are investigating the use of the fake diplomatic car and have conducted raids but have not yet captured him.
Shringheri Sharadapeeth condemns Chaitanyanand's actions
Police are collecting evidence, including CCTV footage. Authorities are asking anyone with information about Chaitanyanand's whereabouts to come forward.
