What Uddhav Thackeray said on Sonam Wangchuk's detention?
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has slammed the Central government for detaining environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk.
Uddhav Thackeray said that the person who developed solar tent technology for our Army is being labeled anti-national, while the government allows cricket matches with Pakistan.
Reacting to Wangchuk's detention, Uddhav Thackeray said, "This is unfortunate. Sonam Wangchuk developed solar tent technology for Indian soldiers deployed in difficult terrain."
He said, "Someone working for our Army has been branded anti-national and detained under the NSA, while you are playing cricket with Pakistan, which spreads terror in India. What kind of patriotism is this?"
Uddhav also appealed to the people to boycott the Asia Cup-2025 final on Sunday, in which the Indian and Pakistani cricket teams will face each other.
Wangchuk was detained on Friday under the National Security Act (NSA). He is being held in Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan.
Following the violence in Ladakh, social activist Sonam Wangchuk has been arrested under the National Security Act (NSA). He has been charged with serious offences including inciting a mob, inciting violence, and endangering national security.
Allegations of Pakistan Links
Ladakh's director general of police SD Singh Jamwal defended the arrest of Sonam Wangchuk, saying his protest platform provided space for violence to erupt. Jamwal said investigators were probing a possible Pakistan link, pointing to Wangchuk's prior visits across the border and alleged interactions with Islamabad-based officials. "Planning and coordination was done beforehand," the DGP claimed, insisting the arrest was necessary to prevent further escalation.
