World Boxing Championships 2025: PM Modi congratulates Minakshi Hooda on winning Gold; India wrap up their campaign with four medals
Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on Sunday congratulated Indian boxer Minakshi for her exceptional victory in the 48kg category at the World Boxing Championships 2025 held in Liverpool.
In a message posted on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said: “Proud of Minakshi on her outstanding performance at the 2025 World Boxing Championships in Liverpool! She brings home the Gold in the 48kg category. Her success and determination are very motivating for Indian athletes. Wishing her the very best for her upcoming endeavours.”
24-year-old Minakshi Hooda edged Kazakhstan’s Paris 2024 bronze medallist Nazym Kyzaibay 4-1 to clinch the title in the women’s 48kg.
Minakshi also enjoyed a dominant campaign, beating Mongolia’s Altantsetseg Lutsaikhan in the semis, England’s Alice Pumphrey in the quarters and China’s Wang Qiuping - all by unanimous decisions.
India win 4 medals, including two Golds
India wrapped up their campaign at the World Boxing Championships 2025 in Liverpool with four medals, including two golds, on Sunday.
Jaismine Lamboria (57kg) and Minakshi Hooda (48kg) were crowned world champions, while Nupur Sheoran (80+kg) secured a silver and Olympian Pooja Rani (80kg) settled for bronze.
On Saturday, the 24-year-old Jaismine stunned top seed and Olympic medallist Julia Szeremeta of Poland in the women’s 57kg final, prevailing 4-1 by split decision.
Previously, the likes of Mary Kom, Nikhat Zareen, Lovlina Borgohain and others have been crowned world champions in tournaments conducted by the old governing body.
India had fielded 20 boxers at the World Boxing Championships, including Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain and Nikhat Zareen, both returning to the ring after Paris 2024.
