Diwali 2025: Why Are Goddess Lakshmi And Lord Ganesha Worshipped Together On Diwali?

Diwali 2025: This year, Diwali will be celebrated on October 20th, so on this occasion, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshipped during the auspicious time in the evening. It is said that on Diwali, worshipping Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha simultaneously bestows their blessings. Happiness and prosperity remain in the home. A mythological tale is mentioned regarding this simultaneous worship.

The worship of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha on Diwali has been going on for centuries. The story is described in the Mahapurana. It is said that Goddess Lakshmi once became very proud because people all over the world were always anxious to receive her blessings.

Lord Vishnu told her that while the entire world yearns for her, she is still anxious about not having a child. This deeply saddened Goddess Lakshmi. Lakshmi shared this with Goddess Parvati, who then placed her son, Ganesha, in her lap.

Since then, Lord Ganesha has been considered Lakshmi's adopted son. Lakshmi was delighted to have Ganesha in her lap and blessed him.

On Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshipped in a special way. It is said that Lakshmi is considered the goddess of wealth and prosperity, while Ganesha is worshipped as the god of wisdom and discretion. When wealth comes, a person becomes engulfed in pride. Therefore, worshipping Ganesha alongside Lakshmi is believed to encourage people to use their wealth wisely and with discretion.
