New Fuel Supply Rules for Old Vehicles in Delhi-NCR: The Central government has taken a major step to curb air pollution in Delhi-NCR. Petrol and diesel will now be available to old vehicles only until October 31, 2025. From November 1, this policy will be implemented not only in Delhi but also in the entire NCR, including Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Gurugram, and Sonipat. This decision was taken at a recent meeting of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).

Which vehicles will be banned?

Under the "No Fuel Policy," vehicles whose age has passed include: Diesel vehicles older than 10 years and Petrol vehicles older than 15 years.

These vehicles will not be given fuel at fuel stations. The government believes that these vehicles will automatically be removed from the roads if they do not get fuel. This is expected to improve the air quality in Delhi-NCR.

Districts to be affected

Under CAQM's Direction 89, this policy will come into effect from November 1st in these districts: Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Sonipat and Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida).

In all these districts, old vehicles will not only be denied fuel, but will also face strict action and monitoring against those violating the rules.

CAQM clarified that postponing this policy was not a relief, but rather to provide additional preparation time. Given the technical and practical challenges, the government and agencies needed more time to streamline the system.

Petrol and diesel were discontinued for old vehicles in Delhi from July 1, 2025. At that time, a fine of up to Rs 10,000 was also imposed for violating the rules. However, due to opposition from vehicle owners and systemic deficiencies, the Delhi government suggested that this policy be implemented simultaneously across the entire NCR. Delhi government minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa wrote to the CAQM formally requesting the policy be postponed until November 1, which was approved.

This move is expected to remove old and polluting vehicles from Delhi-NCR roads, leading to a reduction in air pollution and improved air quality.
