Horrific accident on Navale Bridge in Pune: 20 to 25 vehicles collide and catch fire, killing at least 7
On Thursday evening, near the Navale Bridge on the outskirts of Pune, a truck's brakes failed, causing a collision between 20 and 25 vehicles. A car trapped between the truck and a container caught fire. Seven people were killed and 20 injured. The death toll is expected to rise.
Five of the deceased were car occupants. The truck driver also died. According to police, the accident occurred near Bhorgaon on the Pune-Nashik Highway. The impact was so severe that the car was crushed between the containers and was engulfed in flames within seconds of catching fire.
The deceased are being identified. Traffic on the highway was disrupted for about an hour after the accident. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
