Lakshya Sen scripts history, wins Australian Open 2025 badminton title
Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen defeated Japan's Yushi Tanaka to win the Australian Open men's singles title on Sunday. He defeated Yushi Tanaka 21-15, 21-11.
Lakshya clinched his career’s sixth and this year’s first BWF World Tour title by winning the Australian Open 2025 badminton tournament in Sydney on Sunday.
Lakshya received a prize money of $4,75,000 for winning the Australian Open Super 500 in Sydney.
Lakshya Sen was in excellent form in the final and defeated the 26-year-old Tanaka in just 38 minutes.
Due to numerous errors by world number 26 Tanaka, Lakshya Sen took a 6-3 lead in the opening set and won the first set 21-15.
He completely dominated his opponent in the second set as well.
Sen’s triumph in Sydney is his first BWF World Tour title since the Syed Modi International in December last year.
His career haul also features two Super 100 titles in 2019 - the Dutch Open and SaarLorLux Open - along with the India Open Super 500 in 2022 and the Canada Open Super 500 in 2023.
Sen also became only the second Indian badminton player to win a title on the BWF World Tour this year. Ayush Shetty won the US Open Super 300 title in June.
Lakshya had won a bronze medal in the World Championship and had won a Super 300 match in Lucknow last year.
