Bihar Assembly Election-2025: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar government has made a major announcement regarding women's empowerment in Bihar. The Rs 10,000 given to women under the Chief Minister's Women's Employment Scheme will not have to be returned. The government has clarified that this is not a loan, but rather financial assistance. According to state government data, more than 1.5 crore women have benefited from this ambitious scheme so far, empowering them to become self-reliant.
This scheme is one of the Nitish Kumar government's most ambitious initiatives. Its primary objective is to strengthen women's economic well-being and encourage them to become self-employed. Under this initiative, eligible women are receiving Rs 10,000 directly into their bank accounts (DBT) in the first phase. The government aims to disburse this amount to the remaining eligible women by December 2025.
Women will also be provided additional financial assistance
The government has clarified that this Rs 10,000 amount is not a loan. The claims of loan repayment circulating on social media are completely false. This amount is fully subsidized by the state government and is never required to be repaid at any level. This scheme was launched on August 29, 2025. Women whose enterprises perform well will also be provided additional financial assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh after assessment.
Who is eligible and what are the conditions?
One woman from every family in the state can benefit from this scheme. Applicants must be between 18 and 60 years of age. Additionally, the applicants themselves or their husbands must not be income tax payers or in any government service (regular or contractual). Women who are associated with the Jeevika Self-Help Group are eligible. Women who are not already associated with a Jeevika Group will be eligible to benefit from this scheme by first joining the group.
