Cold Supermoon seen in Madhya Pradesh; Sarika Gharu explains in Bhopal why it appears larger and brighter
This year's last full moon appeared in a special way on Thursday evening. Scientists have named it a Cold Supermoon. People saw this sight with the naked eye without any telescope.
According to science broadcaster Sarika Gharu, the Moon was very close to Earth on Thursday. Its distance is approximately 3 lakh 57 thousand 218 kilometers. This is why it appears larger and brighter than a normal full moon.
Sarika said, "During moonrise, it appears even larger due to the Moon illusion. Slowly moving from east to west, it will reach its closest point to Earth, perigee (the point in the Moon's orbit where it is closest to Earth), at 4:44 am on Friday."
According to Sarika, when the full moon is closest to Earth, it is called a supermoon. During this time, the moon can appear 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than on normal days. To see such a close supermoon in the new year, we will have to wait until December 23, 2026.
