The cold wave continues to affect North India. Minimum temperatures ranged from three to seven degrees Celsius in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan on Sunday. Cold winds in Madhya Pradesh intensified the chill. Icy winds have been blowing in Bhopal and many other MP cities.
The Meteorological Department issued a cold wave alert for Madhya Pradesh on Monday. Bhopal has been experiencing a cold wave for the past three days. The mercury dropped to 7 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Temperatures below 10 degrees were recorded in 17 cities. The Gwalior, Chambal, Ujjain, and Sagar divisions were the most affected by the cold wave.
Indore breaks a 10-year record
Cold winds have chilled Madhya Pradesh. On Sunday-Monday night, the temperature remained below 10 degrees Celsius in most cities. Indore broke a 10-year record. The night temperature here was 5.7 degrees Celsius, the lowest between 2015 and 2024.
A cold wave has been prevailing in the capital Bhopal for the past three days. The minimum temperature here was recorded at 7.2 degrees. Ujjain had the coldest night of the season, with the mercury dropping to 9 degrees. Gwalior recorded 8.9 degrees and Jabalpur 8.3 degrees.
According to the Meteorological Department, Pachmarhi, the only hill station in the state, was the coldest on Sunday-Monday night. The mercury here was recorded at 5.2 degrees. Umaria recorded 5.6 degrees, Rajgarh 6 degrees, Nowgaon 6.5 degrees, Raisen 7 degrees, Khajuraho 7.4 degrees.
Rewa recorded 7.5 degrees, Malajkhand 7.8 degrees, Mandla 7.9 degrees. Similarly, Shivpuri recorded 8 degrees Celsius, Betul-Satna 8.2 degrees Celsius, Damoh 8.6 degrees Celsius, Narsinghpur 9 degrees Celsius, Chhindwara 9.2 degrees Celsius, Khandwa-Sidhi 9.4 degrees Celsius, and Guna reached 9.8 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave and cold day alert for Monday. Several cities in Indore, Ujjain, and Jabalpur divisions are experiencing cold day conditions.
According to meteorologist Arun Sharma, a cold day alert has been issued for Indore, Shajapur, Dhar-Narsinghpur, and Bhopal on Monday. Earlier on Sunday, a cold wave swept through Bhopal-Shahdol, while Shajapur, Narsinghpur, and Betul experienced a cold day.
Some relief from cold wave in Rajasthan
A western disturbance has activated amid the severe cold in Rajasthan. Due to this, some districts, including Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, remained cloudy. The minimum temperature has increased by 2 to 3 degrees, providing some relief from the cold wave.
Temps below freezing in many parts of J&K
Temperatures have dropped below freezing in many parts of Jammu and Kashmir. On Sunday, the Amarnath Yatra base camp was the coldest place in Jammu and Kashmir, recording a temperature of minus 4.3 degrees Celsius. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 0.9 degrees Celsius. Snowfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
Rain and snowfall alerts in three districts of Uttarakhand
Rain and snowfall alerts have also been issued in three districts of Uttarakhand. On Sunday, the temperature in Kedarnath was recorded at minus 17 degrees Celsius, and in Badrinath at minus 14 degrees Celsius.
Rain and snowfall are expected in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand on Monday. Snowfall is also possible in Kedarnath and Badrinath, which could intensify the cold. On Sunday, the temperature in Kedarnath was recorded at minus 17 degrees Celsius, and in Badrinath at minus 14 degrees Celsius.
