IndiGo claims flights resume on many routes; thousands of passengers still stranded at airports
IndiGo saw some relief on Saturday from the operational crisis that had been ongoing for the past four days. The airline claimed that flights had resumed on 95% of its routes. Flights departed for 135 of its 138 destinations. Passengers whose flights were cancelled recently will receive refunds by 8 pm on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the government has fixed airfares for all airlines. Now, airfares up to 500 km will cost Rs 7,500. Traveling up to 500 km will cost Rs 12,000, Rs 15,000 for 1000–1500 km, and Rs 18,000 for more than 1500 km. However, this does not include business class.
More than 800 IndiGo flights were cancelled on Saturday from the country's four major airports: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bengaluru, and several other cities. Although the airline operates more than 2,300 flights daily, it said it operated 1,500 flights to their destinations on Saturday.
IndiGo issued a statement on Saturday saying it is continuously working to restore its flights to normal. Cancellations are gradually improving. On Saturday, fewer than 850 flights were cancelled, a significant decrease from Friday.
The airline has stated that cancellations have now dropped to fewer than 850. Passengers are being urged to check the latest flight status and seek refunds if necessary.
The IndiGo controversy has left thousands of passengers stranded at airports across the country. Passengers have urged the airline to provide timely updates and try to mitigate the difficulties.
