On Saturday morning at 11 AM, Messi virtually unveiled a 70-foot-tall statue erected in his honor in Kolkata. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was also present at this special occasion. Following this event, football fans' hopes soared, anticipating the chance to see their hero up close on the field.
Chaos at Salt Lake Stadium
As soon as Messi arrived at the Salt Lake Stadium, the situation quickly spiraled out of control. Fans, frustrated at not being able to catch a glimpse of Messi, broke through the security cordon and stormed onto the field. Due to the ensuing chaos, the event had to be stopped, and Messi was escorted out of the stadium within just 22 minutes.
Passion Turns to Anger
The disappointment of spectators who had bought tickets ranging from Rs. 4,500 to Rs. 10,000 turned into anger. Bottles were thrown from the stands, and several seats were broken. The police had to intervene to bring the situation under control. Due to the pandemonium, Shah Rukh Khan, Sourav Ganguly, and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were also unable to meet Messi.
Mamata Banerjee apologizes
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has apologized to the fans. Furthermore, ADG Law and Order Javed Shamim stated that the investigation is ongoing and the main organizer, Satadru Dutta, has been arrested.
Messi to play a 7x7 match in Hyderabad
Messi has departed from Kolkata for Hyderabad. He is scheduled to play a 7x7 football match at the Uppal Stadium at 7 PM. A musical concert will also be held there. Afterward, Messi will play an exhibition match at 8 PM. He will then meet with CM Revanth Reddy.

Messi is a brand ambassador for UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, and is undertaking the 'GOAT India' tour as part of this role. He is scheduled to visit four cities, including Hyderabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi. He is also expected to meet Sachin Tendulkar in Mumbai. His tour will conclude on December 15 with a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
