MP: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that Dongla, a historic town in Ujjain, is being redeveloped as a centre for Indian knowledge traditions, astronomy and mathematical research. He said that since ancient times, Dongla has been an important hub for time calculation, the study of the Sun’s movement, almanac preparation and mathematical computation. From this centre, precise studies of time cycles, seasonal changes and celestial phenomena were traditionally carried out.

CM added that the State Government is making continuous efforts to revive this historic and scientific heritage. Developing Dongla as a centre for calculation, astronomy and scientific inquiry will further strengthen the State’s scientific identity.

On the occasion of National Mathematics Day, the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology will organize a range of public awareness events across the State to highlight the importance of mathematics.

The main event will be held on Monday, December 22, in Dongla, Ujjain district, where a national workshop on the theme ‘India’s Vedic Mathematics Tradition’ will be organised.

Renowned subject experts, researchers, academicians and teachers from the State and across the country will participate. The workshop will feature in-depth discussions on the scientific foundations of Vedic mathematics, its linkage with modern mathematics, and its applications in the field of education.

During the workshop, participants will also witness the astronomical moment of the Sun’s transition into Uttarayan, offering a rare and inspiring experience that directly connects them with India’s rich traditions of astrology, mathematics and astronomy.

The Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology will organize mathematics awareness events in nearly 38 districts of the State, covering more than 170 universities, colleges, scientific institutions, voluntary organizations and schools.

National Mathematics Day is observed on December 22 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan
