A meeting was held between Russian President Vladimir Putin and PM Modi at Hyderabad House.

PM Modi described President Putin's visit as "historic." He said, "It has been 25 years since you assumed office in 2001 and made your first visit to India. That first visit laid a strong foundation for a strategic partnership. It is a matter of great personal pleasure for me. I believe that the role you played in 2001 is a prime example of how a visionary leader thinks, where he starts, and how far he can take the relationship. India-Russia relations are a prime example of that."

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi specially gifted the Russian translation of Bhagavad Gita to  Vladimir Putin. PM Modi subsequently wrote on his social media platform, X, that the teachings of the Gita inspire millions around the world.




Putin's visit is significant

Russian President Vladimir Putin is on a two-day visit to India. During this period, he will hold meetings with PM Modi and discuss defense deals. This visit is significant internationally. This visit comes at a time when US President Putin is trying to prevent a war with Ukraine. At the same time, the US is exerting various trade pressures on India. Therefore, instead of succumbing to US pressure, both countries are expanding their mutual understanding and deepening their friendship at all levels, both commercial and diplomatic.
