The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has shared glimpses from his remarks in the Lok Sabha during a special discussion on 150 years of Vande Mataram.

In a separate post on X, Shri Modi said;

“It is our great fortune to remember Vande Mataram, the mantra and slogan that energized and inspired the country's freedom movement and showed the path of sacrifice and penance.”

“When the British were conspiring to make the national anthem a household name, Bankim Babu challenged it, and Vande Mataram was born.”

“Vande Mataram revived an idea that had been deeply ingrained in the very being of India for thousands of years.”

“In 1905, when the British committed the sin of partitioning Bengal, Vande Mataram stood like a rock.”

“Countless brave sons of Mother India embraced the gallows while singing Vande Mataram. Vande Mataram remained their refrain until the very end.”

PM Modi wrote further

“Vande Mataram also showed India the path to self-reliance. It became a mantra to challenge foreign companies, thereby expanding the mantra of independence into the mantra of Swadeshi.”

“Today, it is important to understand why such a great Vande Mataram was treated unfairly and betrayed in the last century…”

“Under the pressure of appeasement politics, Congress yielded to the division of Vande Mataram, which is why Congress one day had to yield to the partition of India.”
