Tigress from Madhya Pradesh's Pench translocated to Rajasthan's Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve

A 3-year-old tigress has been successfully transferred from Pench Tiger Reserve, Seoni, Madhya Pradesh to Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan. The transfer was safely completed using an Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopter.

The transfer operation had been underway for the past month under a well-planned and scientifically executed strategy. The Pench Tiger Reserve management identified a suitable tigress and continuously tracked and monitored her using advanced AI-based camera traps and motion sensor cameras. Approximately 50 cameras were installed in the area for this purpose.

The operation was coordinated in close collaboration with the Rajasthan Forest Department. Suganaram Jat, Chief Conservator of Forests, Rajasthan, and Dr. Tejinder, a veterinarian, had been coordinating this operation for the past month and were present at Pench Tiger Reserve for the last 8 days, continuously monitoring the operation.

This transfer was carried out with the cooperation of Field Director Devprasad J. and under the guidance of Deputy DirectorRajneesh Kumar Singh, Pench Tiger Reserve. 

The tigress was tranquilized by Dr. Akhilesh Mishra and Dr. Prashant, along with the team from the Wildlife Conservation Trust, and with the assistance of Dr. Kajal and Dr. Amol (Veterinary College, Jabalpur) and field biologist Animesh Chavan.

During the transfer from Pench Tiger Reserve to Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve, Mission Leader Assistant Director Ms. Gurleen Kaur (IFS), Senior Veterinarian Dr. Mishra, Veterinarian Dr. Prashant Deshmukh (Wildlife Conservation Trust), and Range Officer Lokesh Kumar Chaudhary, along with teams from both states, accompanied the tigress in an MI-17 helicopter to ensure her safe transfer, thus ensuring effective inter-state coordination and operation.

This successful transfer is a significant achievement in strengthening tiger conservation and promoting genetic diversity across different tiger landscapes through inter-state coordination, the support of the Indian Air Force, and scientific wildlife management.
