TMC vs CEC Meeting Update: The political temperature soared in the Election Commission's office in Delhi today on December 31. A heated exchange took place behind closed doors between Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar

During the nearly two-and-a-half-hour marathon meeting, the situation escalated to the point where Abhishek Banerjee angrily told the CEC to "lower your finger and speak respectfully." This high-profile meeting, called to discuss irregularities in the voter list and the SIR issue, ended without any resolution amidst considerable uproar.

A delegation of 10 TMC MPs, including Abhishek Banerjee, raised several serious questions before the Election Commission, but received no concrete answers.

'New conspiracy is underway in the country to steal votes'

Speaking to the media afterward, Banerjee stated that he reminded the CEC that he is a representative elected by the people, while the Election Commissioner is merely an appointed official. He also made the sensational allegation that a new conspiracy is underway in the country to steal votes by manipulating the voter list through software and algorithms instead of EVMs.

'Names are being removed directly through software'

The TMC leader claimed that discrepancies are being reported in 1.36 crore cases under the SIR, but the Commission is not making the list public. He alleged that there are major irregularities in the ECI app, where names are being removed directly through software without the knowledge of local officials. Elderly people above 60 years of age and people with disabilities are being made to sit for hours in the name of verification, which is completely inhumane. Banerjee openly challenged the Commission to release the CCTV footage of the meeting if they have the courage, so that the country can know the truth.

Attempt to defame Bengal

Abhishek Banerjee said that Bengal is being deliberately defamed in the name of Rohingyas and infiltrators. He clearly stated that if there are any illegal immigrants on the list of 58 lakh suspected individuals, they should certainly be removed, but false propaganda under this pretext will not be tolerated.

He cautioned opposition parties like the Congress, AAP, and RJD that the BJP is now deciding who gets to vote. However, he claimed that the people of Bengal will defeat the BJP again in 2026 because the BJP will not remain in power forever, but the country's Constitution will endure.
