What resolution is introduced in US Congress in connection with Trump's tariffs on India
A resolution has been introduced in the US Congress to end the tariffs imposed on India by US President Donald Trump.
The resolution was introduced by Congress members Raja Krishnamoorthi, Deborah Ross, and Mark Veasey.
Its stated purpose is to eliminate the 50 percent tariffs imposed on India by Trump and to restore the US Congress's constitutional authority over trade.
Raja Krishnamoorthi said, "President Trump's irresponsible tariff strategy towards India weakens a crucial partnership. Instead of advancing American interests, these tariffs disrupt supply chains, harm American workers, and increase costs for consumers."
Mark Veasey said, "India is a vital cultural, economic, and strategic partner, and these illegal tariffs are essentially a tax on ordinary people."
President Trump imposed tariffs on several countries around the world this year, including India. He initially imposed a 25 percent tariff on India, but in August, citing India's purchase of oil from Russia, Trump imposed an additional 25 percent tariff.
As a result, goods exported from India to the US are currently subject to a 50 percent tariff.
