Army vehicle plunges into gorge in J&'s Doda: 10 soldiers die, 11 airlifted to military hospital
An army vehicle plunged into a 400-foot-deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district on Thursday. Ten soldiers were killed in the accident, while 11 others were airlifted to Udhampur Military Hospital.
Army officials said that 21 soldiers were in the vehicle, all of whom were traveling from Doda to an upper post. The driver lost control of the vehicle near Khanni Top on the Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate road.
The vehicle was carrying Army personnel at Khanni top along the Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate road, moving towards a high altitude when its driver lost control and the vehicle plunged into a 200-foot-deep gorge.
A joint rescue operation by the Army and police was launched, and four soldiers were found dead, officials said. Later, six more succumbed to injuries, taking the toll to 10.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said he was saddened by the incident. He added that the entire nation stands in solidarity and support with the bereaved families during this difficult time.
The injured soldiers have been airlifted to the hospital. He has directed senior officials to ensure they receive the best possible treatment and prayed for their speedy recovery.
