Bhopal to be known as 'City of Roses': Kushwah; World Rose Convention-2028 to be held in Bhopal; 2-day rose exhibition concludes
Bhopal: The city will have a new identity as the 'City of Roses'. The World Rose Society and the Horticulture Department will make joint efforts for this. This was stated by Horticulture Minister Narayan Singh Kushwah at the closing ceremony of the 45th All India Rose Exhibition.
He said that the World Rose Convention will be held in Bhopal in January 2028, in which rose experts from 40 countries will participate. Subject matter experts will be involved in rose cultivation, exhibitions, workshops, and innovations in horticulture.
Kushwah said that to encourage rose production, those who cultivate roses commercially or as a hobby in gardens, terrace gardens, or pots are being given various awards and certificates to maintain their interest in the environment.
Govt and private gardens will be developed as rose gardens
He said that for the World Rose Convention in 2028, government and private gardens will be developed as rose gardens with the participation of the people of Bhopal. Efforts will be made to make the rose garden run by the Horticulture Department of international standards. He appealed to the people to develop small gardens in their homes and courtyards.
Flower production is becoming a major source of employment
Commissioner of Horticulture and Food Processing, Arvind Dubey, congratulated the people of Bhopal for this grand event. He said that the state government is celebrating 2026 as the Farmer Welfare Year. A special action plan has been prepared by the Horticulture Department to promote floriculture. Dubey said that flower production is becoming a major source of employment today. A large number of educated farmers and young entrepreneurs are earning profits by engaging in flower production.
The President of the World Rose Society, Sushil Prakash, said that the Society is an international organization that holds a World Rose Convention every three years. It is an important institution that works for the promotion, research, and cultivation of roses. The Madhya Pradesh Rose Society is an important member of this organization. He informed that at the 20th World Rose Convention held in Japan in 2025, Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, was given the opportunity to host the 21st Rose Convention in 2028.
Winners Awarded
At the closing ceremony of the two-day rose exhibition, winners of various competitions were awarded. The overall championship for institutional garden development was awarded to the Assembly Garden. In the individual category, the overall championship went to Mrs. Bhavna Pandey, while BMHRC received the running shield for King of the Show, Princess of the Show, and Best White Rose. Certificates of appreciation were also presented to winners in other categories.
