Contaminated water supply in Bhagirathpura: Did Rahul Gandhi not receive the response he had hoped for during Indore visit?
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, recently visited Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and met the people affected by supply of contaminated water in Bhagirathpura.
He criticized the state's BJP government over the contaminated water tragedy in Indore and also gave cheques to the family members of the deceased. But did not receive the response he had hoped for.
Rahul wanted to raise the issue on a national platform, but he didn't get the support the Congress party expected. Citizens, satisfied with the steps taken by the state government after the incident, did not register any complaints.
Local Cong's weak strategy
The local Congress's weak strategy resulted in Rahul Gandhi's visit becoming a mere formality instead of generating a public movement. The policy of relying on only a few leaders proved costly.
Had Congress connected with the party workers and got their support, the situation would have been different, and it would have instilled confidence in the people.
CM's narrative proved effective
The local leaders' misguided strategy spoiled Rahul Gandhi's plans. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav's narrative of "politics over dead bodies," set before Rahul's visit, proved effective.
This strategy of Mohan Yadav was so impactful that Rahul Gandhi himself had to say that he had not come to do politics, but to listen to the suffering and help the victims.
