Indore Metro not attracting enough passengers? What decision Metro Rail Corporation has taken?
The Indore Metro is not attracting enough passengers. As a result, the Metro Rail Corporation has taken a major decision. From Sunday (January 11), metro train operations have been limited to just one trip. For the rest of the time, the metro will be used for trial runs up to Malviya Nagar.
The Indore Metro began operations for the general public on May 31, 2025. Currently, the metro covers a distance of approximately 6 kilometers between five stations.
Only one trip from Sunday onwards
However, the metro management said this decision has been taken to expedite the launch of metro services for the general public on the entire priority corridor. According to the revised schedule, the metro will operate only one trip from Sunday onwards. Thus, the total operating time of the metro will now be only 25 minutes.
The metro will start from Gandhi Nagar station at 3:00 PM and from Super Corridor-03 station at 3:25 PM.
Corporation is preparing for full operations
The corporation is preparing for full operations between 16 metro stations from Gandhi Nagar to Malviya Nagar starting in March 2026. In March, the Metro Rail Safety Commissioner will begin testing the track from the SC-3 station on the Super Corridor to Radisson Square.
S. Krishna Chaitanya, Managing Director of the Metro Rail Corporation, stated that testing and commissioning work is being carried out rapidly with the aim of completing construction work at all 16 stations from Gandhi Nagar to Malviya Nagar. Integrated testing and commissioning has now reached its final stage.
He further stated that trial runs are being successfully conducted up to the Malviya Nagar Chowk metro station under the priority corridor, and comprehensive testing will soon be conducted on the entire priority corridor.
