MGNREGA was introduced to empower the poor, says Rahul Gandhi, what he said about VB-GRAM-G bill
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in New Delhi on Thursday that he was unaware of the VB-GRAM-G bill. He said VB-GRAM-G is a mere slogan, an attack on the rights of the poor. Rahul appealed to the poor to unite against this new bill.
Rahul was addressing the Congress's National MGNREGA Workers' Conference. At the conference, Rahul and Kharge wore headscarves, carried shovels on their shoulders, and symbolically planted saplings with soil brought by workers from across the country.
Workers from all over the country participated in the conference and symbolically planted saplings with handfuls of soil brought from their workplaces, in the presence of Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.
MGNREGA was introduced to empower the poor
Rahul said that MGNREGA was a scheme introduced to empower the poor. Its objective was to provide work to those in need. This scheme was to be implemented through the third tier of government, i.e., Panchayati Raj. All poor people had the right to work under MGNREGA. PM Modi and the BJP want to abolish that concept.
BJP-ruled govts will always be given priority
He said, "A few years ago, the government brought three black farm laws. But we all united and exerted pressure, and the laws were repealed. In the new law, the central government will decide on providing work and money, and BJP-ruled governments will always be given priority."
What the laborers used to get will now be given to contractors and officers
Rahul said, "What the laborers used to get will now be given to contractors and officers. The BJP wants wealth to remain in a few hands so that the poor remain dependent on Adani and Ambani; this is their ideal of India. They want an India where the king decides everything."
At the conference, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that the government's move to repeal MGNREGA is an attempt to erase Mahatma Gandhi's name from people's memories. He said that his party would strongly raise this issue in the budget session of Parliament.
