MP: CM Mohan Yadav opens Sandhya Chhaya; elderly in Bhopal will now get family-like atmosphere in fully equipped old age home
MP Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that development in the state and the country does not merely mean building infrastructure. For a developed nation, development also implies ensuring better and secures living opportunities for all sections of society, which is the foremost responsibility of the state government. He said that the government is firmly committed to the empowerment and service of Divyangjan and senior citizens.
CM Dr. Mohan Yadav, addressing an event held on the occasion of the inauguration of the newly constructed paid old age home ‘Sandhya Chhaya’, said that this fully equipped senior citizens’ residence has been established by Seva Bharati to provide a family-like environment for the elderly in the capital.
CM stated that the government stands with persons with disabilities at every step to ensure social justice and empowerment. The state government has actively involved society in the service of senior citizens and in the establishment of old age homes. Efforts are also being made to encourage persons with disabilities through various activities and to help them develop their capabilities, as they possess remarkable intellectual potential.
The event was organised at the fully equipped old age home constructed by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities on Journalist Colony Link Road No. 3. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav formally inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
CM inaugurated and reviewed the PPP-mode old age home ‘Sandhya Chhaya’, and also welcomed and interacted with a resident couple.
He reviewed the exhibition of artists from various districts who had participated in the State-Level Divyangjan Sparsh Mela–2026, and encouraged them through personal interaction. He also transferred, with a single click, more than Rs 327.15 crore to over 54.52 lakh pension beneficiaries under the Social Security Pension Scheme. Additionally, he distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions held during the State-Level Divyangjan Sparsh Mela–2026.
Facility has 34 rooms with accommodation for 56 senior citizens
Principal Secretary of the department Smt. Sonali Wayangankar said that the fully equipped paid senior citizens’ residence ‘Sandhya Chhaya’ has been constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 24 crore. The facility has 34 rooms with accommodation for 56 senior citizens, along with amenities such as high-quality meals and park-like surroundings.
She added that a Divyangjan Sparsh Mela was also organised at the venue, in which more than 450 children participated in various sports activities and competitions. A large number of senior citizens, social workers and students were present at the event.
