Now Goa and Andhra Pradesh are also considering banning children's use of social media
Like Australia, the Goa government is also considering banning the use of social media for children under 16 years of age.
Goa's Information Technology Minister Rohan Khaunte said on January 26 that "the state government is currently studying the Australian model."
Rohan Khaunte said that officials in Goa are examining the Australian law to understand how access to social media for minors can be controlled.
He told reporters, "If possible, a similar ban will be implemented on the use of social media by children under 16 years of age. Further details will be provided later."
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh has also spoken about implementing a similar ban. State Minister Nara Lokesh said that the state government is planning to ban social media for children under 16 years of age. This step will be along the lines of the ban implemented in Australia last month.
Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh said, “Children below a certain age do not fully understand the content shown on social media." Nara said that a strong legal framework is needed at present.
After Australia, a bill related to the social media ban was passed in the National Assembly in France on Tuesday. Besides this, countries like Indonesia and Malaysia are also considering adopting similar laws and regulations.
Last December, the Madras High Court advised the central government to explore the possibilities of enacting laws similar to Australia's to ban children's use of social media.
