Renowned artists to perform at 5-day Shri Mahakal festival at Mahakal Lok in Ujjain; CM Mohan Yadav to inaugurate on Jan 14, check key higlights

The sacred city of Ujjain, the abode of Baba Mahakal, is once again set to witness a grand celebration of Indian culture, art and unwavering devotion. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will inaugurate the five-day Shri Mahakal Festival on 14 January at 7 pm at Shri Mahakal Lok, Ujjain. 

This festival will feature performances by renowned artists like Shankar Mahadevan and Sona Mohapatra, along with international groups from Indonesia and Sri Lanka. The festival will also showcase Indian folk and tribal art forms.

The festival, which will continue until 18 January 2026, will present a unique confluence of art, music and intellectual discourse at Shri Mahakal Lok and the Triveni Museum campus.

On this occasion, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Religious Trusts (Independent Charge) Dharmendra Bhav Singh Lodhi, Rajya Sabha MP Balyogi Umeshnath Maharaj, along with other public representatives, will be present. The festival is being organised jointly by Veer Bharat Nyas and the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee.

A Musical Tribute to Lord Shiva by Renowned Artists

Renowned artists from across the country will offer musical tributes in devotion to Lord Shiva during the main evening programs.

On 14 January, the opening day, celebrated playback singer Shankar Mahadevan will present a special musical rendition of ‘Shivoham’ along with his sons Siddharth and Shivam.

15 January: Mumbai-based The Great Indian Choir will present a thematic performance on ‘Shiva’.

16 January: Eminent singer Sona Mohapatra will captivate audiences with her musical journey.

17 January: Shreyash Shukla from Indore and Vipin Aneja from Mumbai, along with his band, will present melodious light music.

18 January: The festival will conclude with a Shiva-centric dance drama performed by international troupes from Indonesia (Kokorda Putra) and Sri Lanka (Ariyaranna Kalurachchi), highlighting the festival’s global outreach.

Splendour of Folk and Tribal Arts

Every day from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, the Triveni Museum will showcase the rich tribal heritage of Madhya Pradesh. Performances will include traditional dances such as Bhadam of Chhindwara, Thatya of Betul, Bhagoria of Dhar, and Baredi of Sagar.

A daily ‘Kala Yatra’ (Art Procession) will pass through various routes of the city and culminate at Shri Mahakal Lok, featuring Shiva Barat, Damru performances, and thrilling Mallakhamb displays.

Intellectual Discourse: ‘Shiva Tattva and Mahakal

Alongside cultural performances, an international seminar will be held on 15 January at 10:30 am on the theme “Shiva Tattva and Mahakal: In the Context of Protohistory, Literature and Culture.” Eminent scholars will deliberate on the philosophical depth and spiritual significance of Shiva Tattva.

The general public has been warmly invited to participate in this devotional and cultural celebration.
