Weather: Fog prevails in 16 dists of MP; cold waves may intensify in many areas of north India as Uttarakhand receives season's first snowfall, see IMD predictions and updates
Since the first day of the new year, several districts in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat have experienced rainfall. Rainfall has also been reported in Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Mumbai, leading to a drop in temperature.
Visibility has dropped to zero in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. A cold wave has begun in Delhi, and temperatures could drop below 5 degrees Celsius during this period.
20 districts of Rajasthan receive winter rains
Twenty districts of Rajasthan received winter rains, and hailstones occured for half an hour in Bikaner. The temperature in Jaipur dropped to 5°C. Dense fog is prevailing in 15 states across the plains, including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana.

A fog alert has been issued for Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh. Due to rain, snowfall, and cold winds, the effects of winter and cold waves may intensify in many areas.
Fog prevails in 16 districts of MP
Fog prevails in 16 districts of the northern Madhya Pradesh. Five districts are experiencing cloudy conditions. Kalyanpur in Shahdol and the hill station Pachmarhi were the coldest, with temperatures dropping below 5 degrees Celsius. According to the India Meteorological Department, a spell of intense cold weather will begin after 24 hours.
First snowfall of the season in Chamoli
The first snowfall of the season occurred in the Niti Valley of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand. A snowfall alert has been issued for four districts.'
Meanwhile, snowfall continues in Sonamarg, Pahalgam, and Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir. The Mughal Road and Sinthan Top Road, which connect the Kashmir Valley to the Jammu region, have been closed to vehicular traffic.
According to IMD, light rain is expected in the lower reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on January 3, while snowfall is possible in the higher altitudes.
