World Economic Forum–2026: Focus on Developing Madhya Pradesh as Global Sports Hub; CM Dr. Mohan Yadav Holds Discussions with Director of Manchester United

Madhya Pradesh CM Dr. Mohan Yadav has stated that the government is working towards developing the state as an emerging sports hub through the strengthening of sports infrastructure, training systems, academies and international partnerships. He said that investments related to sports, training camps, international matches, and tournaments can not only promote sports tourism in the state but also create new opportunities for the local economy and employment.

CM Dr. Mohan Yadav made these remarks on Wednesday while meeting Avram A. Glazer, Executive Co-Chairman and Director of the world-renowned football club Manchester United, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum–2026 in Davos. The discussions focused on potential collaboration in sports development, investment, promotion of football at the grassroots level, sports tourism, and hosting international sporting events.

During the discussions, CM Dr. Mohan Yadav said that Madhya Pradesh does not view sports merely as a competitive activity, but as an effective medium for physical and mental well-being, youth development and social engagement. He said, referring specifically to football, that the sport can serve as a powerful platform for fostering discipline, team spirit, fitness among youth and for building the state’s global identity.

Football can boost sports tourism: Glazer

Avram A. Glazer, Director of Manchester United, concurred with the Chief Minister and said that football can significantly contribute not only to health and youth development but also to boosting sports tourism. He stated that international clubs, training programmes and sporting events can help place a region prominently on the global sports map. Glazer further stated that, considering the economic and industrial potential of Madhya Pradesh, Manchester United and its associated networks are willing to explore collaboration in other sectors of the state as well.

During the meeting, discussions were also held on sports development, grassroots football programmes, exchange of international expertise and sports tourism–based collaboration models.
