Maa Mundeshwari Temple in Bihar's Kaimur is renowned for its miracles: Five-faced Shivalinga changes color here
Have you ever seen a temple where a goat is sacrificed, but not a drop of blood is shed, nor is its life lost? One such mysterious and sacred temple exists in Bihar, linked to the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Located on the Pavara hill in Kaimur district, this octagonal temple is considered one of the country's oldest Shaktipeeths. Built at a height of 608 feet, this octagonal temple is renowned not only for its architecture but also for its miracles.
Durga killed Chand and Mund
The Maa Mundeshwari Temple is said to be linked to the Markandeya Purana. It is believed that Goddess Durga killed Chand and Mund, the commanders of Shumbh and Nishumbh. It is said that after Chand's death, Mund hid in this hill, where the Goddess killed him. Since then, this place has become known as Maa Mundeshwari.
Not only Hindus, but people of other religions also come here to witness the miracles of the Mother Goddess and to ask for their wishes. Devotees believe that every wish asked of the Mother Goddess with a true heart is fulfilled.
Satvik sacrifice
The most unique tradition at this temple is the ritual of satvik animal sacrifice. A goat is sacrificed here, but surprisingly, it neither bleeds nor dies. As part of the ritual, the goat is brought before the idol of the Mother Goddess. The priest touches it to the idol and throws some rice on it. Upon doing so, the goat falls unconscious. After a while, the priest throws the rice again, and the goat stands up. After this, it is freed. Devotees are astonished by this sight.
Five-Faced Shivalinga
The Five-Faced Shivalinga of Lord Shiva is installed in the center of the temple's sanctum sanctorum. It is said that this Shivalinga changes its color at different times of the day. The change in its color is clearly visible in the morning, afternoon, and evening. It is believed that the color of the stone changes depending on the direction and light of the sun. A large Nandi statue is also installed on the western side of the temple complex, which is a center of attraction for devotees.
