Rani Mukerji is thrilled as Mardaani hits 50 crore milestone in India & 75 crore worldwide, what she said?
Yash Raj Films’ Mardaani 3 has taken the hugely acclaimed Mardaani franchise forward by delivering a solid hit at the box office. Mardaani 3 is already the highest grossing film of the Mardaani franchise and today, it hit another milestone as it crossed 50 crore at the India box office and 75 crore at the global box office!
At a time when alpha-male characters are ruling the box office, Rani feels the success of Mardaani 3 is making a quiet but a powerful statement with incredible audience love.
Rani says, “I’m deeply grateful that Mardaani 3 has connected with audiences in such a big way. At a time when the box office conversation is slightly centered around ‘alpha male’ characters, this success proves something very powerful - that female-led films also have an audience. I hope the industry has noticed this so that we have more such films made.”
She adds, “Shivani Shivaji Roy was not written as a ‘female version’ of anything. She is simply a hero - defined by integrity, courage and empathy. She is equal to her male counterparts. The fact that audiences have embraced her story so strongly shows that people are ready for narratives where a woman leads not just emotionally, but commercially.”
Rani further says, “This milestone is much bigger than numbers. It sends a message to the industry that content with purpose, anchored by a strong female protagonist, can stand shoulder to shoulder with hero-driven films and it tells filmmakers that investing in female-led stories is not a risk - it’s an opportunity.”
Rani feels success of female-led films is a necessity for Indian cinema. She says, “For me, Mardaani franchise’s success marks expanding what heroism looks like in Indian cinema. In terms of significance, such a success is a necessity for cinema because we have to make different films and definitely put a woman at the forefront of such cinema.”
With Mardaani 3, Rani has scored a hattrick of hits with this franchise with all the films delivering success stories at the box office.
Explaining why the Mardaani franchise has been receiving so much love for over 12 years now, Rani says, “I think audiences have connected with Shivani Shivani Roy for 12 years now is because she reflects an idea of strength and resilience that is empowering for women and for society at large. Where courage is not about how loudly you roar but how consistently you stand your ground. Perhaps that’s why she stands out. Perhaps that’s why Shivani has resonated so much with people.”
With no competition till Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic release, Mardaani 3 will keep collecting at the box office in the days to come, spreading its hard-hitting message to the people of India.
