Acharya Narendra Dev Agriculture and Technology University, Kumarganj (Ayodhya), has achieved a major breakthrough in the field of vegetable production. The university's Department of Vegetable Science has developed a new improved variety of foreign pumpkin. 

This exotic pumpkin is also extremely rich in nutrition. It contains anti-cancer elements. It is rich in potassium, phosphorus, iron, vitamin A, and vitamin C. Experts believe that regular consumption of this vegetable can prove beneficial for health. Its demand in the market is also expected to grow rapidly.

This variety has emerged as a promising option for farmers in terms of cultivation. Dr. Jha explained that this pumpkin is sown in October and begins to bear fruit in about 70 days. This variety produces during the winter season, when vegetables like pumpkin are usually unavailable in the market.

This allows farmers to get better prices during the off-season and increase their economic income. According to Dr. Astik Jha, this exotic pumpkin is completely different from the usual pumpkin. It is a vineless variety, spreading only one and a half feet in area. Its most significant feature is that a single plant bears four to five fruits, enabling increased production in a limited space. This variety could transform the fortunes of small and marginal farmers.

According to the university administration, this new variety is expected to receive approval from the Vegetable Variety Release Committee this year. Upon approval, it will be released as a major vegetable of Purvanchal. This will not only benefit regional farmers but also open new doors for vegetable production in Purvanchal.
