Ujjain: Mahashivratri to be celebrated for 10 days at Mahakal Temple this year, Lord Mahakaleshwar will be adorned as a groom every day during Navratri
Ujjain: The Mahashivratri festival will be celebrated for 10 days this year at the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, the religious city of Madhya Pradesh.
During the Navratri, which began on Friday, Lord Mahakaleshwar will be adorned as a groom every day, and a new decoration will be done daily.
Sources from the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee said that with the commencement of Navratri, at the world-famous Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple the worship of Lord Chandramouleshwar was performed according to the tradition first in the Naivedya chamber (offering chamber), followed by special worship, anointing, and aarti of Lord Koteshwar Mahadev.
Sources said that due to the extension of the Mahashivratri festival dates this year, it is being celebrated for 10 days (February 6 to 15). The festival, which began with the worship of Koteshwar Mahadev, will feature special decorations of Lord Mahakaleshwar every day. The festival will conclude on February 15 with the Sehra Darshan and the afternoon Bhasma Aarti, which takes place only once a year.
Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple is the only place where the Mahashivratri festival is celebrated with great pomp and show for a full 9 days. On Mahashivratri, the gates of the Mahakaleshwar Temple will remain open for 44 hours so that devotees from not only India but also from abroad can easily have darshan of Mahakal.
