Bihar Rajya Sabha Elections: How Congress MLAs Betrayed Tejashwi Yadav to Ensure Defeat of RJD Candidate Amarendra Dhari Singh
Bihar Rajya Sabha Elections: The alliance with the Congress party in Bihar has once again proven costly for Tejashwi Yadav. In the elections held for five Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar, RJD candidate Amarendra Dhari Singh faced defeat. The Congress party has emerged as a major factor behind this loss.
Three Congress MLAs failed to turn up to cast their votes for the Rajya Sabha elections. Additionally, RJD MLA Faisal Rahman also did not participate in the voting process. Faisal Rahman explained that his mother is unwell and is currently in Delhi for medical treatment. However, the three Congress MLAs remain 'missing.'
Tejashwi Had Arranged 6 Votes
With great effort, Tejashwi Yadav had garnered support from Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM and Mayawati's BSP, thereby arranging the six votes required to ensure AD Singh's victory. However, because four MLAs from the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) itself abstained from voting, AD Singh ultimately suffered a defeat.
Congress Makes the NDA's Task Easier
Given the manner in which the BJP secured victory on the fifth seat—winning by a margin of just one vote—it is evident that even if RJD MLA Faisal had turned up to cast his vote, the contest would have remained a tie. In such a scenario, the support of at least one Congress MLA would still have been required. However, by remaining absent, three Congress MLAs effectively made the NDA's task significantly easier.
A Similar Fiasco Occurred During the Assembly Elections
Prior to this, during the Assembly elections, Tejashwi Yadav had suffered setbacks due to the actions of the Congress party. At that time, the failure to reach a consensus on seat-sharing led to confusion among the voters. Although the total number of seats allocated to each party had been finalized, the crucial question of who would contest from which constituency remained unresolved.
Amidst the internal tug-of-war within the Mahagathbandhan during the Bihar Assembly elections, an official announcement regarding seat-sharing could not be made. Consequently, in numerous constituencies, both the Congress and the RJD fielded their respective candidates at the very last moment. This chaotic situation ultimately resulted in a crushing defeat for the Mahagathbandhan.
