The impact of the war involving Iran, Israel, and the USA is now clearly visible within the tourism industry. Many people who had dreamt of traveling abroad during this year's summer vacations are now compelled to alter their plans; they are canceling their pre-bookings.

Travel agencies are receiving a steady stream of inquiries from people seeking to understand just how safe international travel is under the current circumstances.

Travel agency operators advising people to wait

Travel agency operators are advising people to wait until May or June before making plans. While concerns regarding safety are causing people to steer clear of international travel, domestic tourism is also becoming increasingly expensive. Travelers tell that their plans to spend this year's summer holidays away from home have now become unaffordable.

Surge in airfares for popular tourist destinations

A significant surge in airfares has been recorded for popular tourist destinations such as Malaysia, Thailand, Dubai, Singapore, Paris, Turkey, Bali, and Sri Lanka. Furthermore, due to rerouted flight paths and longer travel distances, passengers are taking longer to reach their destinations. The rising operational costs and route diversions within the aviation sector are having a direct impact on ticket prices.

Travel Agency Businesses Severely Affected

According to travel agencies, the conflict—which has been ongoing for the past two months—has severely disrupted their business operations. Bookings have witnessed a drastic decline, with business volumes plummeting to just 5 percent of their usual levels. The primary driver behind this inflationary trend is the rapid escalation in airfares.

Tickets to major European cities cost up to Rs 2 lakh

Previously, a flight from Delhi to Paris could be secured for approximately Rs 55,000 to Rs 65,000; however, the price for the same ticket has now surged to between Rs 70,000 and Rs 80,000. Similarly, airfares to Zurich have also become significantly more expensive. In some instances, tickets to major European cities are now costing anywhere from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh per person.

Consequently, the cost of air travel alone is consuming a substantial portion of the overall trip budget. For the time being, travelers will have to plan their trips keeping increased costs in mind.

This situation is not permanent

Experts in the travel industry believe that this situation is not permanent. As conditions return to normal, flight routes may revert to their previous patterns, and airfares could potentially decline; however, for the immediate future, travelers will need to plan their itineraries factoring in higher expenses.

If you are planning a trip to Europe, be prepared with a larger budget than usual. Additionally, maintaining flexible travel dates and booking in advance can help mitigate costs to some extent. Many people are also currently opting to postpone their travel plans in the hope that prices will eventually stabilize.
