MP: Global Conference ‘Mahakal: The Master of Time’ in Ujjain from April 3 to 5; Deliberations on Ancient Knowledge Traditions and Modern Space Science; CM Mohan Yadav to Attend
MP Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will participate in the inaugural session of the international conference ‘Mahakal: The Master of Time’ to be held in Ujjain on April 3. The three-day conference will take place from April 3 to 5 at Dongla near Ujjain. Union Minister for Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan will attend the inauguration ceremony as the chief guest, which will be held at the Planetarium Complex in Ujjain.
The sacred city of Ujjain, the abode of Baba Mahakal, has historically been a global centre for time calculation and astronomy. The city will once again become a hub for international scientific and intellectual exchange. Focused on the integration of India’s traditional knowledge systems and modern space science, the conference will bring together scientists, astronomers, academicians, researchers and space experts from India and abroad on a common platform.
During the event, a Science Centre will also be inaugurated. Special workshops on UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), RC (Remote Control) systems and satellite making will be organised to encourage technical skills, innovation and interest in space science among the youth.
The three-day event is being organised jointly by the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology, the Indian Knowledge System Cell (Ministry of Education, Government of India) and Vigyan Bharati. Co-organising institutions include the Indian National Science Academy, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore, Veer Bharat Nyas and the Dattopant Thengadi Research Institute.
Historical and Scientific Significance of Dongla
Located about 35 kilometres from Ujjain, Dongla has historically held great importance from astronomical and astrological perspectives. As the Tropic of Cancer passes through this region, it has long been considered an important centre for time calculation. The conference will also deliberate on the possibility of establishing the Ujjain–Dongla region as a global meridian reference.
Key Themes of Discussion
The conference will deliberate on topics related to the convergence of modern science and Indian knowledge traditions. Major themes include the role of the space economy in Viksit Bharat, advancements in astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology, the scientific basis of India’s traditional time-calculation system, the concept of the Kalachakra (cycle of time) and strategies related to the space sector.
Diverse Events to be Highlights of Conference
The three-day conference will feature keynote lectures, high-level panel discussions, technical sessions, open sessions, a technology expo, a startup conference, visits to the Dongla Observatory, workshops, book releases, exhibitions and cultural performances
Expanding the Vision of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai
Ujjain has historically been a major centre for time measurement. The renowned astronomer Acharya Varahamihira used Ujjain as a base for astronomical calculations, and the concept of Kalachakra developed here continues to inspire modern astronomy. The conferences will also further the vision of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, who envisaged India emerging as a leader in the field of space science.
Initiative to Establish Ujjain as a Global Time Scale Centre
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Yadav, Madhya Pradesh is making steady progress in space technology and innovation. The state government is working to re-establish Ujjain as a global ‘Time Scale Centre’. Efforts are also being made to promote a scientific temperament among youth through a modern Science Centre and the proposed Science City.
Boost to Preparations for Simhastha 2028
Preparations for Simhastha-2028 in Ujjain are underway on a grand scale. Representatives from leading national and international institutions such as ISRO, CSIR, DRDO, NITI Aayog, and several academic and research organisations are expected to participate in the conference.
