W Bengal Assembly Election 2026: TMC Releases List of 291 Candidates; Mamata and Suvendu Set for Another Showdown
West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026: The Trinamool Congress has announced the names of its candidates for 291 seats in the West Bengal Assembly elections. The remaining 3 seats have been allotted to its ally, the BGPM.
CM Mamata Banerjee will contest the election from Bhabanipur. While releasing the list of TMC candidates, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that the Election Commission is playing a "good game" on behalf of the BJP, suggesting that they should simply campaign directly for the BJP. She asserted that the TMC would win more than 226 seats in the Assembly elections scheduled to be held in Bengal in 2026.
Mamata Banerjee will contest the election from Bhabanipur. She will face a challenge from BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. During a press conference, Mamata addressed the BJP, asking, "Why are you afraid? If you wish to fight, do not create a gas crisis. Come out onto the field and compete in a fair manner."
CM Mamata to Contest from Bhabanipur
The Trinamool Congress will contest 291 of the 294 seats in the Bengal Assembly; for the remaining three seats in the Darjeeling Hills, Anit Thapa's BGPM has already announced the names of its candidates. Abhishek Banerjee stated that among the TMC's 291 candidates for the West Bengal elections, there are 52 women, 95 SC/ST candidates, and 47 members of minority communities. Mamata Banerjee is contesting from Bhabanipur, while Shashi Panja is contesting from Shyampukur.
