Assam Assembly Election 2026: What is Rahul Gandhi in a hurry for? Here is what UP Deputy CM Keshav Maurya had to say
Assam Assembly Election 2026
Lucknow: Launching a scathing attack on the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya stated that Gandhi appears to be in a rush to score a "century" of electoral defeats—a wish that the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) victory in Assam will undoubtedly fulfill.
Political rhetoric has intensified following comments made by Rahul Gandhi regarding Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
On Friday, Maurya took to social media to assert that by making petty remarks about Assam's popular Chief Minister, Rahul has proven that his extensive experience—spanning five terms as an MP and one term as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha—is utterly steeped in frustration. He added that Gandhi can insult even a responsible individual holding a constitutional office at any given moment.
Maurya remarked that Gandhi fails to realize that his petty comments directed at Himanta Biswa Sarma constitute an insult to the entire North-Eastern region. He reiterated that Mr. Gandhi is in a hurry to reach a "century" of defeats, and the BJP's victory in Assam will certainly help him achieve this objective.
What Rahul had said?
It is noteworthy that just a day earlier, while addressing an election rally in the Bokajan assembly constituency in support of party candidate Ratan Engti, Gandhi had labeled Sarma as India's "most corrupt Chief Minister."
He alleged that Sarma, in collusion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, is operating a "Land ATM" in the state—forcibly seizing land from common citizens and handing it over to big industrialists.
He stated, "Himanta Biswa Sarma is India's most corrupt Chief Minister, and his family, too, ranks first when it comes to corruption. A Congress government will take action against him. He may boast as much as he likes right now, but once that happens, he will be rendered completely silent."
