Nishant Kumar, son of former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, took oath of office as a minister on Thursday.

Speaking to the media after taking the oath, he said, "All of this is a testament to the love and trust of the people; they are the ones who have brought me into politics. My party workers have brought me into politics."

He added, "I will strive to discharge, with truthfulness and honesty, the responsibility entrusted to me—and the faith and confidence reposed in me—by the people and the party workers."

During the expansion of the Samrat Cabinet on Thursday, 15 ministers from the BJP, 13 from the JD(U), two from the LJP (R), one from HAM (Secular), and one from the RLM took the oath.

There was speculation that Nishant would become Deputy CM

Prior to this, at the time of the formation of the new government in the state on April 15, there was speculation that he would become the Deputy Chief Minister; however, during the cabinet expansion ceremony held at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Thursday, he took the oath as a minister.

Nishant's supporters had claimed that he wished to gain a better understanding of the state before assuming any official position. In line with this sentiment, Nishant Kumar had also embarked on a 'Sadbhav Yatra' (Goodwill Journey) starting from West Champaran on May 3.

Following the announcement of Nishant Kumar's name at Gandhi Maidan, JDU supporters raised slogans in his support.

Samrat Chaudhary's cabinet includes the sons of three former Chief Ministers: Nishant Kumar, Santosh Kumar Suman (son of Jitan Ram Manjhi), and Nitish Mishra (son of Jagannath Mishra).

Two ministers—Mangal Pandey and Narayan Prasad—who were part of the cabinet formed under the leadership of Nitish Kumar in November 2025, have not been included this time around. Both of these individuals had served as ministers under the BJP quota.
