Srinagar: The Vande Bharat Express, operating along the Jammu-Kashmir corridor, continues to be a favorite among travelers—a fact evidenced by the nearly 45,000 passengers who have traveled on the Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express trains over the past 10 days.

The Railways provided this information on Tuesday. According to railway officials, since the commencement of regular operations on May 2, this state-of-the-art train has transported 44,727 passengers to their destinations in both directions up until May 11.

The Railways noted that while the train used to run at full capacity when it operated with eight coaches, it continues to run at nearly full capacity even after its expansion to 20 coaches.

Notably, this train previously ran from Srinagar to Katra but now operates between Srinagar and Jammu Tawi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had flagged off the Srinagar-Katra Vande Bharat Express on June 6, 2025.

Meanwhile, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off its extended service on April 30, 2026. Previously, the train operated with eight coaches; currently, it comprises 20 coaches. During its first week—from May 2 to May 8—the Srinagar-Jammu Tawi Vande Bharat transported 28,762 passengers to their respective destinations.

There are two pairs of Vande Bharat services operating on the Jammu-Kashmir corridor: Train No. 26401 (Jammu Tawi to Srinagar) and its return service, Train No. 26402 (Srinagar to Jammu Tawi). This train operates six days a week, with the exception of Tuesdays. Additionally, there is Train No. 26403 (Jammu Tawi to Srinagar) and its return service, Train No. 26404 (Srinagar to Jammu Tawi); this pair operates every day of the week, except for Wednesdays.

The Railways stated that on Sunday (May 10), the utilization rate stood at 98.21 percent, underscoring the immense potential for tourism within this corridor.

The Railways has affirmed that the Vande Bharat Express serves as the most economical mode of transport on this route. Compared to air travel, a Chair Car ticket—inclusive of meals—is available on this train at a significantly lower price.

The Railways has remarked that from the rugged terrain of Jammu to the gravity-defying Chenab and Anji bridges, passing through tunnels carved into the Himalayan cliffs, and extending to the sun-drenched valleys of Kashmir—every single kilometer of this journey offers a unique experience in itself.
