Kanpur: What an 11-year-old said about her Gullak touched hearts of everyone attending Janata Darbar
Kanpur: The 'Janata Darshan' held at the Kanpur Collectorate recently took an emotional turn when an 11-year-old girl, accompanied by her mother, appeared before District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh, and the story surrounding her 'piggy bank' moved everyone present.
Shanno, a resident of the Jajmau area, had arrived at the Janata Darshan along with her daughters, Iswa Khan and Mariam Fatima. While the woman's complaint primarily concerned a domestic dispute, the story of the young girl's piggy bank (gullak)—which emerged during the conversation—captured the attention of everyone present.
The woman explained that her daughter, Iswa, had been saving money in her piggy bank for a long time. She would deposit whatever money she received from relatives, leftover pocket money, or coins found around the house into it. The girl's wish was that once the piggy bank was full, she would use the savings to purchase a school bag and other essential supplies for herself.
It is alleged that during a family dispute, the girl's piggy bank was smashed—along with other household items—and the money accumulated inside was taken out. When the District Magistrate asked the girl about the incident, she innocently explained that she used to save a little bit of money every day. Hearing this, the people present at the venue were deeply moved.
The woman submitted a written application stating that a complaint regarding this matter had previously been lodged at the local police station, but no action had been taken. In response, the District Magistrate directed the Station In-charge of Jajmau Police Station to conduct an investigation and take necessary action. Subsequently, the District Magistrate called both girls over, spoke with them, and gifted them a new Gullak and a school bag. Furthermore, he personally deposited Rs 1,000 into the new piggy bank to encourage the girls to continue saving.
Upon receiving the new piggy bank and bag, the girls' faces lit up with joy, and their sadness instantly turned into happiness. The people present in the Collectorate premises witnessed this touching moment, which left a lasting impression on the minds of all those attending the Janata Darshan.
