West Bengal Assembly Election Results 2026: Out of the 294 seats in Bengal, the BJP has won 202 seats and is leading in 4 others. The TMC has won 70 seats and is currently leading in 11.

In Bhabanipur, Suvendu defeated Mamata by a margin of 15,114 votes.

The Congress party has secured victory on only two seats. Re-polling for one seat—Falta—is scheduled to take place on May 21.

Mamata left the counting center even before her defeat was officially declared. She alleged, "I was shoved and assaulted inside. A recount must be conducted here."

A victory for Hindutva: Adhikari

Following his electoral victory, Suvendu Adhikari stated that this is a victory for all BJP workers.

He remarked, "Defeating Mamata Banerjee was absolutely essential. Her political retirement has now become a reality. She lost in Nandigram in 2021, and she has lost again this time—by a margin of over 15,000 votes. While the Muslim community voted openly for her, I was blessed with victory by the Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Jain, and Buddhist communities. This is a victory for Hindutva; this is a victory for Bengal; this is a victory for Narendra Modi."

In the 2021 Assembly elections, Suvendu Adhikari had also defeated Mamata Banerjee in the Nandigram constituency. This time around, Suvendu Adhikari has once again registered a victory in the Nandigram seat.

Shortly before the results for the Bhabanipur seat were declared, Mamata Banerjee had accused the BJP of "looting votes."
