A New Technology-Based Governance Initiative in Indore: Sky Patrol Begins — CM Mohan Yadav Launches Indore Police Drone Unit
As part of the initiative for technology-based good governance in Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurated the ‘District Drone Unit’ and launched the ‘Indore Traffic Saathi’ mobile app in Indore on Sunday.
The Chief Minister dedicated 18 state-of-the-art, high-tech drones and 10 police vehicles, formally inducting them into the Indore Police fleet. Acting as the "third eye" of the police, these drones will significantly enhance the effectiveness of law and order maintenance, traffic management, and surveillance systems at all times.
Responding to requests from public representatives, the Chief Minister announced the establishment of three new police stations within Indore city. He further stated that the shortage of personnel within the police force would be addressed in a phased manner.
CM Mohan Yadav said that the government is currently recruiting for 22,500 positions within the Police Department annually, with recruitment processes currently underway for almost all vacancies. He added that the government is also establishing police bands in every district across the state. The CM observed that while technology serves the public interest, it also presents certain challenges; therefore, it must be utilized judiciously and effectively. He highlighted that the concept of "Drone Police" originated in Indore itself and is now poised to set a precedent for others to follow.
Indore Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh announced that 18 drones are being inducted into the Indore Police fleet. The Indore Police are now fully prepared to leverage these state-of-the-art drones for the efficient management of crowds. These drones will cover an operational radius of 2 kilometers. He added that the force will now be able to monitor not only traffic but also criminal activities. These drones have already been deployed to maintain law and order during the ‘Ger’ procession held on Rangpanchami in Indore, as well as at the Bhojshala during Basant Panchami. He further informed that the Indore Police have distributed free helmets to 4,370 individuals.
