Operation Amistad: India Sends Special Army Medical Team to Earthquake-Hit Venezuela; We Share in Your Grief, Says Army
India has dispatched a special Army medical team under 'Operation Amistad' to assist with relief operations and address the devastation caused by a massive earthquake in northern Venezuela.
Expressing solidarity with Venezuela in a social media post on Friday, the Army wrote, "We share in your grief. We stand with you."
The Army stated that a 41-member team from the 60 Para Field Hospital—including nine medical officers—departed on two Air Force aircraft. Capable of providing emergency medical care, trauma management, surgery, and critical care, the team is carrying approximately six tonnes of medical supplies and humanitarian aid. This includes the indigenously developed 'Bhishm Cube' under India's 'Aarogya Maitri Project'.
The 'Bhishm Cube' is a rapidly deployable modular field hospital. It is capable of providing advanced trauma care, emergency surgery, and intensive care for up to 200 patients, enabling swift assistance during disasters.
This mission reflects India's unwavering commitment to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, inspired by the eternal spirit of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam"—meaning "the world is one family."
The Army stated that during these difficult times, India stands in solidarity with the people of Venezuela and extends its deepest sympathies, care, and hopes for the well-being of those affected.
It is noteworthy that at least 235 people have died and over 4,300 have been injured in the devastation caused by two massive earthquake tremors that struck Venezuela within a span of just a few seconds.
